September 23, 2010 - No.2 Pencil version 1.4 is now available from the App Store. If you purchased an older version, get your free upgrade today! Our new website will be up in a day or two with full documentation and new video tutorials. Come back soon!
September 1, 2010 - The 1.4 upgrade is done. We are running our final barrage of tests (for things like memory leaks) and will submit it to Apple within the next 24 hours. It could take a week or two for the upgrade to become available, depending on the length of Apple's app queue.
August 10, 2010 - The "to do" list is less than a page, so we're now looking at a matter of days to finish the upgrade. We've been doing a lot of drawing, both to test the software and to create some sample images.
April 30, 2010 - We're about a month behind here, but the 1.4 upgrade is in beta testing. There is still a lot of clean up to do (with graphics, animation and some optimizing) and still need to rework all of the documentation, sample images, tutorials and so forth. This means we still have about a month of work before it is ready for release. Very close!
February 17, 2010 - We're in the home stretch now on the 1.4 upgrade. After building at least a dozen versions of our graphics engine over the past year, we've settled on one that uses only slightly more memory than the original black & white engine but offers color, translucency, line smoothing, and more. The new No.2 should be submitted to Apple in a few weeks and then we'll immediately go to work on iPad support.
January 29, 2010 - The 2nd half of 2009 was rough, but it is all behind us now. We essentially rewrote No.2 from scratch a couple times, met with some Apple engineers, and may finally have a way to move forward with color (and all the other features we want). We are racing to get the color upgrade out before the iPad ships. Will the upgrade support the large iPad screen? That is what we want to do. Check the Development Blog for more details.
March 28, 2009 - The 1.3 upgrade for No.2 is finally available for users to download from the App Store. This upgrade fixes all known issues (which were causing crashes for many users). No.2 also now lifts the pencil from the page when you lift your finger, saving you an extra tap to disengage the pencil. We plan to submit the 1.4 upgrade with color tools by the end of April.
March 19, 2009 - Still waiting for Apple to post the 1.3 upgrade for users to download. This is the longest we've had to wait for Apple's review process, but hopefully it will go through any day now. We are already working on the 1.4 upgrade which should be ready within a month.
February 25, 2009 - Testing went well and the 1.3 upgrade has been submitted to the App Store. Users should see the upgrade in the next few days.
February 19, 2009 - We are testing the 1.3 upgrade now. This fixes the crashing bug and has a few other small improvements. We'll be testing over the weekend and plan to submit to the App Store on Monday. It could take 1-2 weeks for the upgrade to appear in the App Store for users to download.
February 16, 2009 - A number of our users have been experiencing No.2 crashing after 20-30 seconds of use. This has not been affecting all users, and has been very difficult for us to track down since the problem had not been appearing on any of our test units. Since this is preventing paying customers from using No.2, fixing it has been our top priority before adding any new features. We have recently (finally) been able to reproduce the error on one of our development units and isolated the error to corrupt preferences (where No.2 remembers what drawing you were working on the last time you ran it). We have a version running without the problem now and should be able to release it by the end of the week. We will post more details soon. Deleting No.2 and reinstalling it will clear the existing preferences and my provide a temporary fix until the upgrade is available.
October 29, 2008 - The 1.3 upgrade of No.2 is in the works and should be released in the first half of November. We are slightly behind our original schedule due to a family emergency, and we appreciate greatly your patience.
August 15, 2008 - The 1.2 upgrade of No.2 is now available for free download. This upgrade focuses entirely on reducing memory usage to prepare for upcoming features. We expect to release 1.3 in early September with color support.
August 8, 2008 - The 1.1 upgrade of No.2 has been approved by Apple and should go live later tonight at the App Store. This is a free upgrade for anyone who has bought No.2 already. The main new feature is vastly improved performance (nearly three times better) for much more responsive and smoother drawing. Also we've added cropping when exporting a drawing (cropped to the screen, but maintaining the native resolution) and a frame around the page to make your position clearer when scrolling and zooming.
July 11, 2008 - Our first product, No.2, is now available from the Apple App Store. Please check out the details on the No.2 page, and feel free to send us any questions on our support page.
